Composing

Michael's lyrical, charming, stylish and above all playable and singable music has become a staple of teachers of children and adults, who reach gladly for albums full of tuneful and attractive music. Moreover, it is music which is carefully tailored to the learning needs of instrumentalists, whether they are aiming to pass exams or simply to play for pleasure.

Michael has been commissioned to produce a number of small- and large-scale works, from choral/orchestral works such as 'Sounds and Sweet Airs' (for the Bedford Choral Society), to carols and chamber works for local choirs and musical friends.

Michael is extremely versatile. He has even written a work for piano, 2 cellos, violin, recorder and cricket bat and ball, including themes from Sibelius symphonies, for the 80th birthday of a music- and cricket-loving friend, whose family commissioned the work as a birthday present.

A large amount of Michael's music for amateurs is available from major publishers including the Associated Board, Novello and Fentone.
